Description
Twenty years after the debut of the first Planet Ocean, in 2025 Omega introduces the fourth generation of this collection of professional diving watches. The update includes a complete redesign with significant changes to the architecture of the case and strap. There are also technical improvements that help the model meet the brand's ever-increasing performance standards. Although the design has evolved, the Planet Ocean retains its core identity. The collection continues to draw inspiration from Omega's ocean heritage, preserving the key elements that have defined the line since its inception.
The timepiece is at once familiar, yet completely updated and different. The case has a more contemporary design, characterized by sharper lines and angular surfaces that replace the softer curves of previous generations. This is a deliberate move towards a more architectural aesthetic, in line with contemporary tastes, while preserving the functional roots of a professional diving watch (the most visible difference is the removal of the helium valve). The case returns to the original 42 mm diameter of the 2005 model, but the overall proportions have been significantly changed. Omega has reduced the profile to 13.79 mm, which is 2.31 mm less than the third generation. The lug-to-lug distance is just 47.5 mm, making it more compact even compared to the 50 mm size of the current Seamaster Professional 300M. The flat sapphire, the relatively small dial aperture, and the redesigned structure of the case and bezel contribute to the slimmer and cleaner profile.
The version offered today comes on a rubber strap with steel end links. On the outside, a specific pattern is noticeable, composed of rectangles with a serrated texture, framed by two matte stripes. On the inside, the same wave motif known from the rubber straps of the Seamaster Diver 300M is used. The strap is paired with Omega's characteristic folding clasp with push-buttons.
Another distinctive feature of the new model is the absence of a date – something we have already seen with the Ultra Deep, but applied to the Planet Ocean for the first time.
Last but not least is the overall architecture of the case, caseback, and crown, the structure of which was developed with the help of four new brand patents. In combination with accumulated experience and technological heritage, this allows the watch to achieve the familiar water resistance of 600 m.
This watch offers exceptional performance and impressive style both above and below the water. The massive steel case, the blue bezel, the black dial with luminescent hands and markers ensuring excellent visibility even in low light, as well as the steel Arabic numerals "3", "6", "9", and "12" – all of this turns the model into a true instrument in the hands of professionals. The dial is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire with an anti-reflective coating and is "crowned" by a unidirectional rotating steel bezel with a ceramic insert, a minute scale, and serrated edges for easier handling.
The movement also deserves special attention – the new Omega Co-Axial Calibre 8912, operating at a frequency of 25,200 vibrations (3.5 Hz), with a power reserve of over 60 hours, 39 jewels, and 202 components. The two barrels, the brand's Nivachoc anti-shock system, and all other technical solutions allow Omega to offer a 5-year warranty for some of the watches equipped with this movement.
