Description
The watch presented today belongs to the generation of El Primero Chronomaster models introduced in 2013. This particular model was launched in the same year in a very limited edition of just 500 pieces – the example presented today is among the last ten.
But why exactly has this model managed to establish itself and earn a worthy place in the Zenith family? There are several reasons. First, the relatively classic case design. Unlike some of the other design experiments from the brand, this series of watches is one of its most traditional. Second, the numerous functions that can be found on its dial – in addition to the day, date and month, it also provides a moonphase indication, all complemented by its chronograph functions.
And third, the continuous improvements that the manufacturer introduces with every successive generation of the model. In this particular watch, there are several – the return to the classic case shape, with a smaller bezel, domed crystal and smaller, round chronograph pushers that rise above the case.
As already mentioned, the design of the model is classic and follows the lines of the brand's most successful chronograph – the “36,000 VpH”. The colours are classic and restrained, without the elaborate guilloché decorations and multiple dial layers found in the first “Open Heart” models. Overall, the design follows that of the original El Primero Chronograph from 1969, but in a contemporary interpretation and with numerous additional functions.
Particularly impressive is the beautiful slate-grey sunburst dial, which changes its shades depending on the light and the angle from which you view it. Combined with the lighter subdials, it gives the watch an exceptionally elegant and aristocratic appearance.
The hour markers and hands are rhodium-plated, faceted and feature Super-LumiNova SLN C1 inserts. Beneath this beautiful dial lies the brand's legendary in-house El Primero movement, in this particular case the El Primero 410 – an automatic chronograph with a complete calendar and moonphase indication, a 50-hour power reserve, operating at 36,000 vibrations per hour (or 5 Hz), with 390 components and 31 jewels.
And the full splendour of the movement can be admired through the transparent caseback of this work of horological art. It truly demonstrates impressive attention to detail – rhodium-plated finishing, precisely finished bridges and a rotor decorated with “Côtes de Genève”, adorned with the skeletonised star from the Zenith logo.
The watch is suitable both for everyday wear with smart-casual clothing and with a formal suit, while its 100 m water resistance adds further practicality. Of course, with a watch of this kind, especially when fitted with a leather strap, it is best to limit contact with water.
