Description
We are pleased to present a Rolex that proves the brand is not merely a conservative manufacturer of expensive attributes, and in doing so, proves yet again and in a different way why it is so prized and valuable.
The Oyster Perpetual range was first introduced in 2015 and aims to offer a timepiece which, unlike other representatives of the “Oyster” line, is neither distinctly sporty (such as a Submariner), nor is it a dress watch (such as the Cellini), but is rather “casual”, as it allows you to wear it with jeans and a t-shirt, as well as with a formal shirt and trousers. Another special feature is that it is here Rolex launches fresh colors – the idea being more than transparent, namely to attract the attention of young people and thus expand the consumer base.
Indeed, the detail on this timepiece (as is the case with all modern Rolexes we have had the opportunity to examine) is impressive.
We begin with the incredible dial (incidentally, the series offers 4 variants to choose from – “Black”, “White”, “Red Grape”, “Vivid Blue” and of course the most balanced in our opinion, the “Dark Rhodium” presented here) which changes its color under certain angles from dark grey, through steel, to light.
The markers and hands are “suspended” in the air in a sort of weightlessness, are elegant, and are made of white gold (which is standard for the brand’s modern models). The markers at “3”, “6”, and “9” are enlarged and filled with a luminescent compound - only reinforcing the overall elegance of the model and enhancing its overall presence.
We move on to the incredible sapphire crystal – in this case, the brand's highest grade of sapphire is used, which has allowed the overall height of the timepiece to be reduced compared to its predecessors.
Of course, separate attention must be paid to the case and bezel – an incredible combination of brushed highest-grade 904 L steel with faceted polished edges and details in places (as you know, Rolex pays special attention to the steel it uses and for this purpose has its own foundries for its production!).
And of course the bracelet, the band, the chain, or whatever you may call it – as can be expected from a Rolex, it is truly good, and in this case, it is a classic Oyster bracelet – with micro-adjustment, and its full size includes 5 links towards “6 o’clock” on the case (of which 2 are removable) and 7 links towards “12 o’clock” (of which 4 are removable); the clasp is an Oysterclasp with a deeply engraved logo upon it.
Of course, at the heart of the timepiece “beats” an in-house Rolex movement – in this case, this task is entrusted to the 3132 – a descendant of one of the most successful, reliable, and fine automatic movements not only of the brand, but in horology in general – with a 48-hour power reserve, Paraflex shock absorber, and Parachrom hairspring.
