Undoubtedly, it is the Speedmaster that has largely made Omega what the brand has been for the last 50 years, and for this reason, it is this model that first comes to mind for every watch enthusiast at the mention of the brand.
We have the pleasure of presenting to your attention a new interpretation of that renowned Omega timepiece, to which the brand largely owes its popularity, namely the Omega Speedmaster FOIS 39.7 mm. This is the new interpretation of the legend, launched in 2024 - in it, the manufacturer manages to update the model without it being intrusive and without disturbing the classic look.
The model is a representative of the Anniversary series – whose purpose is to commemorate the important moments of the collaboration between Omega and NASA. For this reason, the watches are numbered and are a limited series, each of them is a remake of the original used in the respective NASA mission and undoubtedly represents a magnet for every collector of lunar Omegas.
Beneath the creamy glow of a "scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with a hesalite shape" is positioned a beautiful blue and grey dial with a CVD coating, reproducing the tone of some CK 2998 watches produced in the 1960s. The hour markers, as well as the alpha hands, are filled with "vintage" (Omega probably meant only a vintage look) Super-LumiNova, something some critics call "fauxtina".
The model is a so-called "Sapphire Sandwich" – with a sapphire crystal, a transparent case back, but again with a manual winding movement, a successor to the renowned Lemania. I am sure that for most of us, the phrase "Omega Speedmaster" first brings to mind this exact design, and it is for this reason that the manufacturer has taken care not to disappoint the brand's admirers, and the external design has not been changed from the original.
As most of you know, a few months ago Omega launched the new Speedmaster series on the market, which now have a slightly changed design, different movements, and as a result, all previous models are skyrocketing and their prices are growing and continue to increase – and this is most reflected in this particular model (and of course in all limited edition Speedmaster series).
And, of course, the movement - the Omega Calibre 3861 used in the watch is the brand's latest interpretation based on the legendary Lemania 1873 – a mechanical manual winding movement, 26 jewels, 50 hours power reserve, and operating at 21,600 vibrations. Unlike the one used in the previous version of the lunar Omega, this movement is now Co-Axial with a silicon balance spring – thanks to numerous improvements and innovations, the movement now has a Metas certificate for its achieved anti-magnetism of 15,000 Gauss. The rhodium-plated finish of the movement provides a luxurious finish, and the "Geneva waves" and engravings now elevate it to a much higher level.
The inclusion of a solid case back does not allow us to enjoy this wonderful movement, but on the other hand, it provides the opportunity for the engraving of the legendary seahorse and the inscriptions "The first Omega in space" and "October 2, 1962", and all this leaves no doubt as to what exact watch you are wearing on your wrist.
