Without a doubt, the Speedmaster is precisely the model that, to a large extent, has turned Omega into what the brand has been over the last 50 years, and for this reason it is this model that first appears in the imagination of every watch enthusiast when the brand is mentioned. Today we have the pleasure of presenting to your attention a new interpretation of that famous Omega watch to which the brand largely owes its popularity, namely the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Co-Axial 42 mm. This is the new version of the legend, in which the manufacturer has managed to modernise the model without making it feel intrusive and without disturbing its classic appearance. The model is current for the brand, has been offered since the beginning of 2021 and is the so-called “Sapphire sandwich” – with sapphire crystal, transparent caseback, but again with a hand-wound movement, a successor to the famous Lemania. We are sure that, for most of us, when we hear the phrase “Omega Speedmaster”, this exact design comes to mind first, and it is precisely for this reason that the manufacturer has made sure not to disappoint the brand’s admirers – the external design remains as close as possible to the original. We will try to direct your attention to the differences between the new and previous model – in this way, in our opinion, the evolution of the watch can best be shown. The new dial layout is similar to that of the previous model, but the new version receives an additional retro feel – this is most noticeable at the edge between the inner dial and the minute markers. In addition, we get a painted logo and a changed design of the minute markers. The bezel is the next changed element – here it is slightly lighter, and the dot at the “90” marker is now positioned above the number, which is a reference to the original pre-1970s design. The case of the new model is thinner – the new model is only 13.58 mm thick, compared with 14.3 mm for the previous one. Some might say that the difference is barely noticeable, but we can assure you that this watch feels more comfortable on the wrist, and perhaps the reduced thickness is precisely the reason for this. And of course, the movement – the Omega Calibre 3861 used in the watch is the brand’s latest interpretation based on the legendary Lemania 1873 – mechanical, manually wound, with 26 jewels, 50 hours of power reserve and operating at 21,600 vibrations. Unlike the movement used in the previous version of the Moonwatch, this movement is now Co-Axial with a silicon hairspring. Thanks to the many improvements and innovations, the movement now has METAS certification due to its achieved anti-magnetism of 15,000 gauss. The rhodium plating of the movement gives it a luxurious finish, while the “Geneva waves” and engravings elevate it to a much higher level. The other major change concerns the bracelet – it has a changed link profile, while the biggest difference is in the design of the buckle. Here Omega return to the so-called “retro” design with a thinner buckle featuring a ridged relief.
