Description
This special version of the Seamaster Diver 300M is not just a new color scheme, but a timepiece with true environmental credentials, reflecting Omega's support for the Nekton foundation. As a leading British non-profit organization, Nekton is committed to the protection of the oceans by accelerating scientific research. Working in collaboration with the University of Oxford, Nekton works to accelerate scientific research and protect the health of the oceans.
To fulfill its mission, Nekton relies on a deep-sea submersible, which the team has named Seamaster 2 in tribute to the boat captained by the late Sir Peter Blake (1948-2001). A renowned yachtsman, who was also a passionate advocate for ocean conservation and a close friend of Omega, Sir Peter Blake was tragically shot and killed by pirates while monitoring environmental changes in the Amazon.
At first glance, this SM300 Nekton will seem familiar. After all, it is closely related to the classic James Bond watch and shares numerous elements with it. And yet, the differences are not few.
The main evolution found on this Seamaster Diver 300M Nekton is the bezel. The characteristic black or blue glossy ceramic insert has been replaced by one made of grade 5 titanium. The markers and the diving scale are the result of a laser ablation process. Instead of "engraved" markings in negative relief, the diving scale is in positive relief, adding texture and a 3D effect. The base of the bezel has a deep-grained texture, and the markers are polished, resulting in the desired contrast – a similar process is used on the emblematic tri-metal (titanium, gold, tantalum) version of the chronograph.
The caseback, usually made of sapphire crystal on the classic editions of the Seamaster Diver 300M, is closed on this Nekton version. It is adorned with a special engraving to mark the partnership – depicting the "Seamaster 2" submersible used by Nekton.
Under the caseback lies the no less wonderful movement of this unique model – Omega's new Co-Axial – 8806 (already known from the previous No Date versions like the latest Bond), operating at the unusual frequency for other movements of 25,200 vibrations (3.5 Hz), with a power reserve of over 55 hours, 35 jewels, and 199 components. Two barrels, the brand's Nivachoc anti-shock system, etc., etc. – all this allows Omega to offer a 5-year warranty for some of its watches with this movement, including this one. The differences compared to the previous Omega 8500 Co-Axial movement are several, but the most significant is that it is now a Master Chronometer (It has passed the Metas certification - with much stricter criteria) – and this particular model is the first not only from Omega, but the first mass-produced watch in general to have passed this certification. You must agree, this is worthy of all our respect.
