The history of Omega begins in the distant 1848, when the brand's founder, Louis Brandt, began to hand-assemble pocket watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen in his native province of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. It is important to say that the name "Omega" is not mentioned until 1894, when Louis Brandt passed away and his work was taken over by his sons – Louis-Paul and César Brandt.
Omega watches have long been closely associated with glamorous screen and sports stars – for example, the Omega Seamaster is known for being the choice of James Bond for many years, starting with Sean Connery and reaching the current Bond – Daniel Craig. The right to be ambassadors for the brand is also proudly carried by such celebrities as Pierce Brosnan, Nicole Kidman, Anna Kournikova, swimmers Michael Phelps and Ian Thorpe, as well as many others.
Today, Omega is known for its precise approach to testing all new movements, cases, and all other parts of its watches. Every new Omega movement is tested in already existing models and in real-world conditions before a decision is made to integrate it into new models.
At present, the Omega collection includes the Constellation, Seamaster, Speedmaster, and Deville series. Whichever Omega model you choose, however, you can be sure that every single one of the watches meets the brand's highest standards.
The Omega Seamaster began its "earthly journey" in the distant 1947 and nowadays every Omega enthusiast has the opportunity to choose from three varieties of the Seamaster: Seamaster Professional, Seamaster Planet Ocean, and Seamaster Aqua Terra. Of all the contemporary models, the Seamaster Aqua Terra comes closest to the original with its dress style, but as can be expected, there has been a great evolution since then – both in the brand's design and in the tastes of its watch admirers.
We have the pleasure of presenting to your attention one of the noble representatives of the Seamaster Aqua Terra collection, namely the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 220.12.41.21.03.009.
Regardless of all its technological achievements in this Aqua Terra, from every angle it is a purebred Seamaster. We are reminded of this when we see the traditional "Ω" on the dial, the smooth bezel, the traditional hands; all of this makes it look very elegant and beautiful.
The deep blue dial with a teak deck-like texture offers excellent contrast thanks to the applied hour markers and the intriguingly shaped hands. The seconds hand is in a signal yellow color and this contrasts very well with the main base of the dial – the same color is used for several other accents. The date window is positioned at the new location for the series at "6 o'clock", the hands are faceted, and the stunning effect is finalized with the contrasting accents. One of the things that is almost impossible to show in its full beauty in photos (at least not within my power and skills) are the different dimensions of the dial. All this splendor is observed exceptionally well thanks to the slightly domed sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating – in certain positions, the crystal seems to be missing and you could touch the hands without anything stopping you. The bezel is smooth, fixed, and seems to lend security and protection to the entire magnificence of the watch, and together with the ribbed crown, they solidify its overall presentation.
The placement of a transparent case back allows you to enjoy the beautifully decorated Omega movement, which deserves separate attention – the new Co-Axial from Omega – 8900, operating at a frequency unusual for other movements of 25,200 vibrations (3.5 Hz), with a power reserve of over 60 hours, 38 jewels, and 202 components. Two barrels, the brand's Nivachoc anti-shock system, etc., etc. – all this allows Omega to offer a 5-year warranty for some of its watches with this movement, including this one.
The strap is very comfortable due to the clasp with its easy-to-use push-buttons, and the fact that it is made of soft, flexible rubber in a unique grey color with contrasting yellow "stitching" makes its presence even more impressive.
