Breguet Marine 40mm Titanium

The history of Breguet spans four centuries and is so rich in innovation and reform that, with a certain degree of confidence, one could say that watchmaking in the form we know today would not exist without this truly cult brand. We have all heard of Breguet hands, the Breguet overcoil, and in some countries at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, all pocket watches were called “Breguet” – just as today we call photocopiers “Xerox” or baby diapers “Pampers”... Today we have the pleasure of presenting to your attention a representative of the brand’s Marine series – and not just any representative, but one from the newest line, in a titanium version with a 40 mm case. The series brings together all this heritage and reminds all of us why Breguet is such a great brand. When the watch was first presented in 2018, it initially polarised opinions not only among fans of the brand, but among watch lovers in general. The piece presented today is a typical representative of this series – it comes in an elegant case from the brand’s latest design, made of Grade 5 titanium. The dial stands out with guilloché featuring a sunburst effect, while the aesthetics of the watch are further enhanced by the Roman numerals and decorated hands. The watch presented today comes in a very comfortable 40 mm case – however, because of the bezel design and the protruding lugs, the watch looks and wears even larger. Undoubtedly, one of the most attractive things about this watch, apart from the fact that it is a Breguet ;-), is the movement, which in addition to the time indications also offers a date at “3 o’clock”. It operates at the frequency commonly used in mechanical watches, 4 Hz – or, in other terms, 28,800 vibrations per hour. The manufacture designation of this work of engineering art is Breguet Calibre 777A – and the finishing follows the traditions of Breguet, while also showing the connection with the brand’s maritime heritage. The rotor is shaped like a ship’s wheel, while the bridges feature guilloché resembling a ship’s deck. The movement has over 55 hours of power reserve and 179 parts – dry numbers... The dial is easy to read and the indications are clearly recognisable – all of this thanks to the well-thought-out design and, of course, the experience and heritage of the brand. The colours used, apart from the grey, which combines incredibly well with the titanium case, are silver-toned, and this only contributes to the legibility of the indications. The caseback is open, and this gives us the opportunity to enjoy not only the operation of this wonderful movement, but also the unique finishing for which Breguet are justly famous.
